  • Talkative Children

Today has been going pretty smooth so far. School is almost done for the two little girls and Jack has been enjoying coloring today which is unusual for him. Coloring is normally too sedate for him. I am cooking some chicken for lunch and afterwards we all need to get some chores done. So far not much laundry has been done which was one of my main goals today. We shall see how the rest of the day goes on that front.

I think everyone of my children are huge talkers. Even Jack is a non stop talker. There are days when I think I just don't want anyone to talk to me. It is so hard to try and pretend to be interested in every word that comes out of every kids mouth. They say a lot of stupid mindless stuff and then they look at you and expect a response. And after an entire day of 5 kids talking non stop about the books they are reading, some funny line in a movie they watched, a funny thing that they were playing, what so and so said to them at Church on Sunday, etc... etc... I'm ready to pull out my hair and say I just don't care. Which after having those thoughts and feelings I think man I am a really crappy mom.

I have been working hard at stopping what I am doing and really trying to listen to them and give them a proper response. I know it is important for them to feel that they can talk to me and that I am listening. It isn't easy though and I do have to have some alone time each day just to stay sane.

It makes me realize just how much I drove my parents insane with my non stop banter. I do remember one day my dad peering over his paper and telling me to just "shutup" I went away feeling very insulted. Now I realize the poor man just wanted a bit of quiet while he read the paper and later he would talk to me all I wanted. It makes me laugh now. I don't tell my kids to shutup but I do appreciate the frustration he felt.

I think this is why now I can't really stand to talk on the phone very long. It's just too much after a day of being talked at!

  • Sick of Sickness

Ok so first we had the whole week of dealing with clinic visits and then the hospital stay with Doug's Staph infection. Then it's been the I.V. treatments every 8 hours at home and more Dr. visits. Then this last week it was kids with the flu. Today I got it. I have been miserable all day and still had to do school with the kids because they had missed on Friday when they were sick. So I am officially SICK OF SICKNESS!!!!

I know it is a stretch to even ask or want this but I would just love an ordinary week of doing school with everyone healthy! At this point that would just seem easy.

Doug has been super today and helping with the school load and watching chick flicks with me this evening. Now I am going to go watch Chuck on TV.

  • It's a noisy Monday!

Today has been very busy already and the day is just half done. Abbie's school went pretty fast today and only took two hours. Emily had her online reading group this morning which experienced a lot of technical difficulty probably due to the weather. It took an hour and half. Then the cousins were dropped off and all school has come to a halt until later. It is amazing how much noise two more girls add to the already noisy house. I think they are all a little hyper since they haven't played together in some time. Jill's school was cancelled today because of all the ice so she gets to be here today instead of just Julie. Emily is very happy about that.

I am now going to abandon Tim with 4 little girls and one hyper boy. He really deserves a medal. I have to go and try and get Abbie's glasses fixed. The screw keeps coming out and I had them replace it on Friday but yesterday it fell out again.

  • School Days

Well we are back to full days of school. We are doing the Minnesota Virtual Academy with k-12 curriculum. I love it so far. There have been some hiccups with connecting to the web site and late shipments of materials but even with all that I think it is going to be a very productive year. Emma is very happy to be learning Spanish and Tim is enjoying German. While doing school we are also full swing into potty training Jack. He only wants to wear big boy underwear during the day and he is making progress every day. The last two days he has done his #2 on the potty which is a really big deal since before he was afraid to do that on the potty. Today after getting up from nap time he was still in a diaper and he went to the potty because he had to go instead of going in the diaper. So I think he is doing amazing! I have to do a load of underwear in the wash every night because he still has quite a few accidents and a lot of time he starts to go and then runs to the potty so that even though he did most of it in the potty his pants are wet. Just goes with the territory but I think School time will seem easier once potty training is done. :) My goal is to have him done by the end of October. We shall see. Ok I am sure that is more info on potty training than anyone cares about but it is what is going on in my life!

Abbie had a re-check on her eyes to make sure that her prescription was correct and she did great. The Dr. said her eyes are already improving a bunch and she won't have to do the patching at all. With the glasses she has depth perception which she didn't have before. She has been very good at keeping her glasses on and putting them away in the same spot every night. I haven't even had to remind her at all. Must be a personality thing since I know as a child I would have never been that disciplined. Gotta love it when occasionally a kid just does the right thing with out a lot of work on your part! Thank you Jesus!

We have had crock pot meals the last two day which has made dinner easier. Alicia made a wonderful soup yesterday and then today I made a meatball noodle dish which was truly awful. I meant to have dinner earlier but we didn't and then by the time we did have dinner the noodles were mush. YUCK. The meatballs were yummy though. :)

The older kids are out swing dancing which is a new thing they are doing every Tuesday night. They love it. Some of our other church kids go too so it is good fellowship and lots of fun dancing. Sometime Doug and I might try and get a babysitter and go too!

Funny story about Jack. The other day I was in the smallest room of the house and he was talking to me outside the door. Which all mothers know is what happens to moms, we don't even get to use the bathroom in peace. It just goes with the territory. Anyway, he put his fingers under the door and I said "oh I see cute little fingers under the door" and then I asked him where his toes were. He put his toes under the door and I said "oh those are the sweetest little toes". Then Jack responded with" you want to hold them"! It was so funny!

So as you can see things are pretty ordinary around here and very hectic with school, potty training, laundry, and never any peace. I have to say that I love it and feel so blessed! God has been so good to me.

Blessings upon you! (quote from Doug's dear Grandpa)

  • Little Abbie got her glasses today!!  She just looks so cute.  Check out our videos and you can see her.  I am trying very hard to come up with some ideas regarding the adoption t-shirts.  Would love to have input from everyone.  How about it Nettie your an artist?    I learned the other day that the two boys I was interested in are no longer available.  I have not been upset about it but have been thanking God that he found the right home for them.  Soon after that I learned of an agency that pays for the adoption if you adopt one of their promise kids.  The promise kids are usually special needs but they also consider sibling sets special needs since they are hard to place.  Anyway I am in the process of checking that out.  Looking forward to seeing what God has planned for us.

It is going really well.  So far I am loving k-12.  There is so much to do in a day and we have only gotten through everything one day but they say that is normal.  How about you all?  How is it going?
